IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR EXISTING SADIE 6 USERS

You should continue to use the existing version of SADiE and additional downloads that you have installed. The Free version is not a direct upgrade or replacement for fully licensed SADiE 6 systems and should be treated as a separate, license free edition.

The free release is intended only for use on new computers that do not rely on certain legacy features or older, discontinued hardware. Support for key functionalities, such as CEDAR plugins and CD burning and reading has been removed (though DDP writing is still available). The bundled iZotope tools are no longer included in this version.

Additionally, while the FREE version remains compatible with BB2, BB2J, and LRX2 hardware, this should be approached with caution and only on a fresh system to avoid overwriting any existing licensed installation. This release does not support older SADiE hardware such as PCM4, PCM8, H8, H16, or H64.

Prism Sound, the manufacturers of the world-leading craft editor 'SADiE' are proudly sponsoring the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association conference 'CBA: Live in Nairobi' in Kenya. The conference is part of the 'Digital East Africa' project and will be hosted by the CBA at the Nairobi National Museum from 20th-22nd June.

In addition to sponsoring the event, SADiE are sending two highly experienced BBC programme makers to speak and present at the event, Peter Nash and Peter Leslie Wild. Both Peters will be presenting creative workshops in drama production, feature and documentary making for radio and podcasting.

Peter Nash is managing director of his own independent production company 'Monty Funk Productions', and has been a high-end features maker for BBC Radio 4 and Radio 3 since the mid 1990s. Peter Leslie Wild has been a senior producer for BBC Radio Drama for 16 years, winning a number of awards, and recently went freelance. He is also well-known for large-scale theatre productions, his training workshops at British universities and is now involved in a variety of podcasting projects.

Both have worked together extensively for both BBC projects and theatre productions, and are renowned specialists for producing drama-documentaries, having made at least 25 together, and between them many hundreds. They will be presenting together and separately at the conference, with very practical and engaging sessions incorporating live actors, and will deconstruct their drama-documentary work in front of a live audience. They will also be part of the panel discussions to be recorded and will be producing a podcast of the event.

SADiE is the editing system used by the BBC, Radio France, Radio New Zealand and is found in many other major broadcasters around the world from the ABC in Australia to Deutsche Welle, RUV in Iceland to RTHK in Hong Kong. As Pete Nash explains: "It's about accuracy, speed and work-flow, particularly in a 'crafting' environment like drama and documentaries. You need a system that is fast, completely reversible and allows many changes; this is what SADIE has done for me during my many BBC programme-making projects".

More information about the conference can be found at the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association website, where you can also find details about attending, and the forthcoming podcast of the event.
